Riot police were seen dispersing anti-government protesters who flooded Zimbabwe's capital city of Harare on Friday.

Police officers reportedly beat demonstrates with batons and used teargas, with some of the protesters seen lying on the ground. At least three were reportedly injured with some others arrested.

People, including members of opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) Alliance, held banners supporting movement's leader Nelson Chamisa and against the ruling Zanu-PF party.

Demonstrators flooded capital's Africa Unity Square, defying a ban to protest, voicing their discontent over worsening economic situation and President Emmerson Mnangagwa's government.

Mnangagwa came to power in 2018 winning the elections that followed a military coup which toppled Robert Mugabe. Chamisa and his supporters claim the elections were rigged and refuse to concede defeat.
