Shoes for your feet are being made from chicken feet.
You see, this 25-year-old Indonesian entrepreneur is using skin taken from the feet of chickens.
In his mind, he’s recycling.
Because in many cuisines, rubbery chicken feet are considered a delicacy.
But chicken feet can be an enormous waste product at fast food restaurants and markets.
He turned these places into his main suppliers.
The entrepreneur’s dad noticed how chicken feet have a similar pattern to exotic skins like snake and crocodile skin.
He didn’t like the idea of these animal populations and environments being threatened, so chicken feet shoes were born.
Now he and a team of five crank out shoes entirely or partially made from chicken feet.
It takes about 10 days to make a pair.
The feet are skinned by hand, dyed and sewn into pieces that can be made into shoes.
Reuters says it takes about 45 chicken feet to make a pair of shoes.
They cost anywhere from $35 to $140.
Customers say the fashion forward shoes are knocking their socks off, and that they’re comfortable to wear.
