Chinese President Xi Jinping joined a panel discussion with the deputies from South China’s Guangdong Province at the first session of the 13th National People's Congress, China's national legislature, on Wednesday morning. Mi Xuemei, a grassroots deputy from a clothing company in Guangdong, has been working for 21 years in the province. Through the lens of her experience, Mi talked about the enormous changes that took place in her city thanks to the reform and opening up. She also hoped that governments at all levels will continue to increase investment in education to meet the growing needs of the children of migrant workers, and thus to ease their concerns. Xi Jinping listened attentively to her speech, saying: “Your name is just like your experience, ‘The fragrance of plum blossoms comes from bitter cold’.” Then, Xi emphasized, “The Communist Party is in pursuit of the people’s welfare. When the people are unhappy and unsatisfied with something, we will work hard to solve their problems.”
