The Federal Opposition is coming under acute pressure not to capitulate over the medical evacuation of refugees and asylum seekers on Nauru and Manus Island.

Bill Shorten will receive a security briefing this morning on a crossbencher bill that would allow emergency transfers if just two doctors give their approval.

Immigration Minister David Coleman says if Labor backs the Bill it would dismantle a key pillar of Australia's border protection regime and see up to 1,000 people quickly transferred to the mainland.

The Morrison Government is facing the very real danger of losing two key votes in coming days, not just on asylum seekers but also on a Labor push to extend the parliamentary sitting to deal with the banking royal commission.
