In a round of follow-up questions, Republican counsel Stephen Castor asked Kurt Volker, the former U.S. special envoy to Ukraine, about his dealing with Andrey Yermak, an aid to Ukraine’s president, as well as President Donald Trump’s personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani. Volker testified Nov. 19 alongside Tim Morrison, a former White House official who served on the National Security Council. The public hearing was part of the impeachment inquiry into Trump. The impeachment probe centers around a July phone call in which Trump asked the president of Ukraine to investigate former vice president and 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter. Lawmakers are seeking answers on whether Trump withheld U.S. aid to Ukraine in exchange for those investigations.
