Rep. Patrick Maloney, D-N.Y., questioned Bill Taylor, the top U.S. diplomat in Ukraine, and George Kent, deputy assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs, in the first public hearing in the impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump. In response to questions from Maloney, Taylor said then-national security adviser John Bolton shared his concerns about discussions about withholding aid from Ukraine. Taylor also confirmed he raised his concerns in a cable sent to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. The impeachment probe centers on a July phone call in which Trump asked him to investigate former vice president and 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter. Both Kent and Taylor testified to lawmakers in October behind closed doors.
