Rep. Chris Stewart, R-Utah, questioned Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, an Army officer who works for the National Security Council, and Jennifer Williams, an aide to Vice President Mike Pence, on Nov. 19, in a public hearing as part of the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump. Stewart pushed back against Vindman's assertion that Trump’s request for Ukraine to investigate his political rivals was “a demand.” The context of the call “made it clear that this was not simply a request,” Vindman said. “That’s not true at all. It’s not clear at all,” Stewart responded. Vindman and Williams both listened in on a July phone call in which Trump asked the president of Ukraine to investigate former vice president and 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.
