After Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen confirmed that she believes there is a national emergency on the Southern border, Rep. Val Demings, D-Fla., asked for her personal opinion on whether she thought the same emergency system could be used to addressed mass shootings. Nielsen said that, in general, the problem of mass shootings is "an emergency we need to address." Referring to the "countless" deaths from mass shootings in the U.S., Demings asked Nielsen how many Customs and Border Patrol agents have died in the line of duty. "Zero," Nielsen said.
