US President Donald Trump joked about remaining in office past his second term during a campaign rally in Fayetteville, on Monday, to support Republican candidates Dan Bishop and Greg Murphy in a special election in North Carolina's 3rd Congressional District.

Speaking on the FIFA football World Cup planned in the US in 2026, Trump said "But we've got a problem, it's in 2026 ... well wait a minute under the normal rules, I'll be out in 2024, so we may have to go for an extra term, ok."

"Tomorrow you're going to see headlines 'Trump wants an extra term, I told you, I told you. He wants an extra term. He wants an extra term, ladies and gentlemen, we told you. We told you he's a dictator, we told you'. No, no, I'm only kidding. I'm only kidding," he added.
