USA: Peace talks with Taliban are dead - Trump

US President Donald Trump met with President of International Federation of Football Association (FIFA) Gianni Infantino to talk about US hosting the 2026 World Cup, in Washington DC, on Monday. The US President also commented on some other issues, including talks with Taliban and relations with Iran.

Trump called the peace talks with Taliban "dead" after they took responsibility for killing ten people in a car bomb attack near the US Embassy in Kabul on 5 September, days after the US peace negotiators announced that they had reached a draft agreement with the group on the withdrawal of US soldiers.

In the statement Trump also said he would be willing to meet with Iran if they "straighten out" and called the prisoner swap between Russia and Ukraine a "very, very positive event."
