The NBA All-Star Game MVP award has been permanently renamed after the late Basketball legend Kobe Bryant, Commissioner Adam Silver announced during an annual press conference held at the united Center in Chicago, on Saturday.
The naming of the award comes as a way to honour the Los Angeles Lakers star who throughout his career was synonymous of the All-Star festivities, breaking the record with 18 All-Star appearances and tied the record of four times MVP. Bryant played his first All-Star game in 1998 when he was only 19, also making him the youngest player to ever being called for the team.
The first Kobe Bryant MVP award recipient will be chosen on Sunday night, after Team LeBron and Team Giannis go head to head on the final event of the 2020 All-Star event.
