Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said that the focus of the meeting with the US officials on Wednesday was on curbing migration and not on looming US tariffs, speaking in Washington DC on Wednesday.

"We are optimistic because we have a good meeting with respectable, respectful positions from both parts," added Ebrard.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump threatened Mexico with 5% rise of tariffs on Mexican export to the US starting on Monday if the country doesn't toughen its position on migration. The two sides will continue talks on Thursday.
