Speaking at a joint press conference with Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni, US President Donald Trump highlighted the role of Italy in the development of arts and science, saying that it "continues today from Venice to Florence from Verdi to Pavarotti," at the White House, Washington DC, Thursday.

Departing from a written statement, he called the Italian opera singer "friend of mine, great friend of mine."

Social media got stirred up by Trump's friendship with the deceased opera singer with many calling to memory another one of Trump's 'friendly gestures'. In July 2016 the widow of Luciano Pavarotti urged Trump to stop using the operatic tenor's version of the aria "Nessun Dorma" in his campaign rally calling it "incompatible with the world vision of the candidate Donald Trump.” But it seems like true friendship has no end.
