Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez gave Democratic Presidential Nominee Bernie Sanders her official endorsement as the two of them spoke on stage at a massive "Bernie's Back" rally in New York City on Saturday.

Thousands of people can be seen gathered in Brooklyn's Queensbridge Park for the rally, waving Bernie Sanders placards and chanting "Bernie's Back!"

"It wasn't until I heard of a man by the name of Bernie Sanders that I began to question and assert and recognise my inherent value as a human being that deserves healthcare, housing, education, and a living wage," Ocasio-Cortez said of Sanders.

Sanders also spoke at the event, and said that his campaign was not only just about defeating US President Donald Trump, but "is about transforming this country. It is about creating an economy and a government that works for all of us, not just the one per cent."

The rally was dubbed "Bernie's Back" as it was Sanders's first rally since recently being hospitalised with a heart attack.
