According to a report by Reuters, on Friday, a U.S. Senate subcommittee investigating sexual abuse in gymnastics accused a former head of the U.S. Olympic Committee of making “materially false statements," and it said it would refer the matter to the FBI. Republican Senator Jerry Moran and Senator Richard Blumenthal said they made the referral detailing potential violations of the law against Olympic Committee CEO Scott Blackmun. The accusation comes after a report released on Monday claimed the United States Olympics Committee failed to protect athletes from the threat of sexual abuse, with some executives taking no action despite repeated allegations of sexual abuse against Larry Nassar, a long-time team doctor for USA Gymnastics.
