U.S. President Donald Trump expressed hope Wednesday that Hong Kong and China will work things out in the wake of massive protests in Hong Kong against proposed laws that would allow China to request extradition of criminal suspects from the city for trial in China. While Trump avoided taking sides, the State Department and some lawmakers say they share the concern of Hong Kong citizens who fear that the laws could increase China's control of the autonomous region.
