Hundreds of protesters marched through central London on Saturday, in solidarity with demonstrators opposed to India's new Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

Demonstrators, many from London's Indian Muslim community, were filmed marching with placards bearing the words "United against fascism in India" and "Keep calm and protect minorities." Protesters held a rally on Richmond Terrace, opposite Downing Street, before marching to the High Commission of India.

One of the protest organisers said: "People, to be honest, are angry that this could happen to India, that it would slide so deep into becoming a fascist, Hindu supremacist state."

Similar protests have swept India after the Indian Parliament passed a bill on December 11, entitling religious minority migrants from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan to Indian citizenship if they entered the country before 2015. The amendment has come under criticism for discriminating against undocumented Muslim migrants.
