Extinction Rebellion (XR) protesters held a roadside lie-in near Heathrow Airport in London, Sunday, to demonstrate against a third runway planned at the transport hub.
The activists lay down on the road in front of a pink tractor-turned-bulldozer as the police stood guard. The protest was in response to Prime Minister Boris Johnson's promise to "lie down in front of those bulldozers and stop the construction of that third runway," a statement he made as he was elected to parliament in Uxbridge in 2015.
"There's no sign of him, is there," said one activist, Sheila Taylor, as others criticised him for what they see as yet another broken promise.
Alex Dickenson, another Extinction Rebellion activist, thanked Boris Johnson for "helpfully drawing people's attention to the things that actually matter, which is the environment rather than Brexit."
Part of the road was closed off as the protest took place.
