Hundreds of environmental activists poured buckets of fake blood outside Downing Street in London on Saturday as part of a call for action on climate change.

The activists, from protest group Extinction Rebellion, said in a statement that the stunt was an effort to make “viscerally clear” the deadly effects of climate change. In total they spilt over 200 litres (53 gallons) of fake blood onto the street.

The demonstration follows the arrest of 13 Extinction Rebellion protesters who occupied the main hall of the National Museum of Scotland, where an annual oil industry dinner was taking place in Edinburgh on Friday.
