Russia Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that US foreign policy was becoming heavy-handed during a press conference with his UAE counterpart Abdullah Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

“The statement that everyone who supports the legitimate president of Venezuela will be sanctioned is another proof that the American diplomacy is rapidly losing a sense and ability for diplomatic measures and instruments, and resorts to the language that has never been common in diplomacy," Lavrov said.

He cited Russian President Vladimir Putin saying that Moscow would not get involved in another arms race but it would be ready to take steps if Washington deployed new missiles in contravention of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty.

Lavrov met with his UAE counterpart to discus bilateral relations between the two states, including cancelling visa control.
