Japan's defence forces are deploying tens of thousands of troops to help with rescue and clean-up efforts after a powerful typhoon swept across the eastern coast.

At least 23 people have been killed and many are still missing.

The storm brought damaging winds and heavy rainfall causing flooding and landslides.
