Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that pro-government military units were pushed back by Turkish shelling of the Kurdish-dominated Afrin area, speaking in Ankara on Tuesday.

"Today towards evening, it's been determined by the HTS (Hay'aat Tahrir Al-Sham) militia that about 10 pick-up trucks were coming towards Afrin. Then they were forced to turn back following the shelling," stated Erdogan.

Pro-Syrian government militias had begun entering the Kurdish-dominated region of Afrin amid Turkish shelling in the area.
