On Thursday, Texans living near the Gulf Coast are bracing for high winds, extreme rains, and an unusually high risk of flooding, as Tropical Storm Harvey continues to gain strength. Meteorologists are now expecting the weather system to assume hurricane status by Friday. Texans along the coast are bracing themselves for impact, filling sandbags, boarding up windows, and stocking up on food and water. In its most recent weather advisory, the National Hurricane Center said Tropical Storm Harvey is “likely to bring multiple hazards, including heavy rainfall, storm surge, and possible hurricane conditions to portions of the Texas coast beginning on Friday.”
