A nurse has gone public to denounce the lack of masks and materials needed for everyday work amid the coronavirus pandemic, in Paris on Tuesday.

Malika Belarbi, a nurse and representative of CGT trade union said there were no masks for "almost all nursing home staff" because it "was considered useless" while items like antibacterial soap were missing depending on the institutions.

"All institutions are stressed because the situation is very tense when it comes to working items, and by the end of next week we'll be left with nothing," Belarbi went on to explain.

France has been one of the countries most affected by the pandemic with over 40,000 confirmed cases and around 3,000 deaths according to local health officials.
