According to a report by Reuters on Thursday, Syrian government forces are poised to cut rebel-held eastern Ghouta in two as troops advancing from the east meet up with forces at its western edge, increasing pressure on the last major rebel enclave near the capital. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights warns that the Syrian government's campaign to crush the enclave in an intense campaign has killed 898 civilians in just the last 18 days. Reuters reports that a pro-Damascus commander, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed a report by the Observatory on Wednesday that the enclave in Ghouta had been effectively sliced in two.
