Footage has emerged from Afrin showing what local authorities claim to be a concrete wall being built by Turkey in order to isolate the city from Syria. The reported move prompted protests from the area's Kurdish residents on Thursday.
Footage shows a watchtower and a large stretch of concrete wall in the countryside near Afrin.
Hundreds of Kurds in the region rallied to voice their concerns over the wall. In 2018, Turkey conducted an operation in and around Afrin as part of the Turkish-led 'Olive Branch' military operation against Syrian Kurdish forces in northern Syria.
In a statement published online, the Syrian Ministry of Information condemned Turkey's actions, saying it was "a new violation of international laws." Turkish officials meanwhile have not commented publicly on the reports.
