Rakim Mayers, American rapper better known as A$AP Rocky, pleaded not guilty to assault charges as his trial started in Stockholm on Tuesday.
The rapper, alongside two members of his entourage, are suspected of deliberately attacking a man named Mustafa Jafari on 30 June and have been held in custody since 3 July.
According to Mayers' lawyer, the Grammy-nominated artist, acted in self-defense after "being followed" by Jafari and other man and after one of Mayers security guard was "hit and cut" with a headphones thrown at him.
The beginning of trial, which has been in the spotlight after President Trump spoke with Sweden's Prime Minister requesting the rapper's release on bail, was held in a secure courtroom where no photographing or filming was allowed. The trial is expected to last until Friday.
