A general strike called by opposition groups saw Khartoum’s streets empty and shops closed on Sunday.

The strike was reportedly called for by the Sudanese Professionals Association who asked citizens to stay at home to rekindle the opposition protests left battered in the aftermath of a violent crackdown on the protesters by Sudan's Transitional Military Council (TMC) last Monday.

The TMC has been running Sudan after ousting President Omar Al-Bashir in April, following mass protests against his 30-year rule. Thousands of protesters have camped outside the Defence Ministry, demanding a transition to civilian rule.
