Arab League (AL) Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit met the Transitional Military Council (TMC) leader Abdel Fattah Burhan, members of the opposition party Alliance for Freedom and Change and other political forces in Khartoum on Sunday.
Gheit said that the AL's main goal is "to ensure stability in order to reach a national accord in Sudan dan." He added that TMC leader Burhan hopes "to find common ground to help Sudan make a transition from this period to a new one, [an era] which could give Sudan and Sudanese people from all confessions all they want."
The Secretary General voiced his support for Sudan's transition into a country with "a civil and stable governance that should be accepted by all parts."
Abu Faysal, a member of Alliance for Freedom and Change, called on the TMC to uphold previous agreements made with his opposition party.
Member of the Democratic Unionist Party Muhammad Sayed Ahmad stated that "unity and nationalism" are the priority of his party and said that he discussed with Burhan the importance of preserving "the unity of Sudanese people."
The TMC has been running Sudan after ousting President Omar Al-Bashir in April, following mass protests against his 30-year rule.
The military recently began a crackdown on protesters, who continue to demand an immediate transition to civilian rule.
