A thunderstorm ‘microburst’ ripped the roof off this school gym, leaving multiple students injured.

In US news and current events today, Union Intermediate Elementary School in Clinton, North Carolina was hit by a ‘microburst,’ which is a column of sinking air within a thunderstorm. The severe weather outbreak was all caught on camera.

Microbursts can be up to 2.5 miles in diameter. 21 young students and a teacher were reportedly in the gym at the time of the incident.

3 fifth graders were reportedly taken to the hospital for injuries and later released. Watch the microburst footage here.

North Carolina has sustained extensive damage from storms in recent years including Hurricane Matthew & Hurricane Florence in 2016 & 2018.
