Palestinians demonstrated on the 71st anniversary of Al Nakba Day across the occupied West Bank and in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday. Footage filmed near Khan Younis in Gaza shows Palestinian protesters running towards the fence on the border with Israel to be met with tear gas. One person was reported to have been killed in clashes. Meanwhile 13 people have been injured, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
Al Nakba or 'catastrophe' is marked every year to commemorates the expulsion of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians before and after the establishment of Israel in 1948.
The latest escalation comes as Israel is hosting the Eurovision contest and just more than a week after three-day cross-border hostilities between Gaza and Israel which killed 25 Palestinians and four Israelis.
