Israel's armed forces launched air strikes on targets in the northern part of the Gaza Strip on Saturday, in retaliation after at least 150 rockets were reportedly fired into southern Israel from the Gaza Strip.
Footage shows bombs exploding in Gaza City and heavy smoke billowing in the area. According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, a 22-year-old man was killed and four other people injured in the strikes.
The IDF released a statement saying they are carrying out aerial strikes on Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad targets across Gaza.
The flare-up comes as senior officials from Palestinian groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad were in Egypt for talks about a proposed Gaza-Israel truce.
