A funeral was held in the town of Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip on Thursday, for eight members of the Abu Malhous family who are believed to have died in an Israeli airstrike overnight.
On Thursday, Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) and Israel reportedly agreed to a ceasefire, brokered by Egypt, halting a bout of violence. The ceasefire came into effect at 05:30 local time (03:30 GMT), hours after the Israeli airstrike which allegedly killed eight members of the Abu Malhous family, including children. Israeli claimed that it had targeted a militant.
After the announcement of the ceasefire, which Israel has not publicly confirmed, later on Thursday, at least fire rockets were reportedly fired from Gaza into southern Israel.
Tensions have been escalating in the Gaza Strip since Tuesday, after Israel launched airstrikes to kill a senior PIJ leader Baha Abu al-Ata. Palestinian militants have fired some 450 rockets into Israel. The fighting has killed at least 34 Palestinians and injured dozens more.
