Thousands of Palestinians took part in demonstrations in Gaza and the occupied West Bank to mark 71 years since the Al-Nakba on Wednesday. Footage shows protesters met with tear gas at the Israeli border fence near Shajaiya in the Gaza Strip.
The Palestinian Health Ministry said at least one protester was killed and 60 injured in clashes, in which live and rubber coated bullets were reportedly used. Paramedics were seen at the site of the demonstration carrying the wounded on stretchers.
The day of Al Nakba meaning 'catastrophe' is marked on May 15 every year to commemorate the events of 1948 which led to the expulsion of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their ancestral lands, and to the establishment of Israel.
