Sri Lanka's security forces seized a number of articles including oil drums, dynamite sticks and batteries during joint raids in the town of Samanthurai on Friday, five days after around 253 people were killed in bombings on Easter Sunday.

The raids were reportedly carried out by Sri Lanka's police, Special Tasks Forces and Army, and among the items recovered were oil drums, wires and batteries alongside a flag of the so-called Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL).

On Friday, Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena said a house-to-house search of the entire country would be conducted to root out terrorists in the aftermath of Sunday's attacks.
