Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena announced that there would be changes in the top ranks of Sri Lanka's security forces "within 24 hours" while speaking at a press conference in Colombo on Wednesday.

Sirisena added that "within the next week we are giving priority to the defence forces and going to make necessary changes within these departments."

At least 359 people were killed and a further 500 were injured on Sunday, during the Easter weekend, when eight seemingly coordinated explosions rocked the Asian country, with hotels and churches in both Colombo and two other cities being targeted.

A Sri Lankan government spokesperson admitted during a press conference in Colombo on Monday that there had been warnings from intelligence agencies about possible terrorist attacks on Christian targets in the country.
