A new study says spiders use natural electric fields to help them travel as far as hundreds of miles. Thunderstorms create a constant electric circuit between the earth’s surface and the upper atmosphere. The surface has a negative charge while the upper atmosphere has a positive charge. Spider silk, when released, is negative, which scientists say may help them lift off. According to The Huffington Post, the effect is more powerful the higher up into the air the spiders are.
