Spanish acting Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, was booed on Monday morning while he was leaving the Sant Pau hospital in Barcelona, where he went to see police officers injured in the current protests engulfing Catalonia after independence leaders were jailed.

Before his visit to the hospitals Sagrat Cor and Sant Pau, Sanchez, together with the Interior Minister, Fernando Grande-Marlaksa, visited the headquarters of the National Police in Catalonia, where he was reportedly received amid booing and shouts of "Freedom for political prisoners."

As announced via Twitter, Sanchez sent a letter to the president of Catalonia Quim Torra this morning "urging him to condemn violence outright, protect the security forces that fight it and avoid civil discord."

Nearly a thousand people have gathered before the building that houses the Spanish government's delegation in Barcelona calling for Sanchez to enter into dialogue, under the slogan: "Sit down and talk.~

According to local media, Sanchez is on his way back to Madrid.
