The Russian national ice hockey team cancelled a scheduled practice on ice in Bratislava on Tuesday following their 3:0 victory over Czech Republic and ahead of the next match in the 2019 IIHF World Championship against Italy.
Instead the Russian athletes trained at a gym and played some played football on a small pitch at the rear of the Ondrej Nepela Arena.
Head coach of the Russian squad Ilya Vorobyov said that "this year's World Championship is a very high-level competition" highlighting teams from Sweden, Slovakia, the USA and Canada.
The 2019 IIHF World Championship kicked off in the two Slovakian cities of Bratislava and Kosice last Friday. After three victories in first three matches Russia is preparing to examine one of Group B outsiders Italy on May 15. Then Ilya Vorobyov's side will play against Latvia on May 18, Switzerland on May 19 and defending champions Sweden in the final preliminary round clash on May 21.
