Olympic silver medalists Germany beat Great Britain 3:1 in the IIHF World Championship group A match in the Slovakian city of Kosice on Saturday. It was the first game for the team from the British Isles in the tournament in 25 years.

"Obviously, it's always tough when you take a loss. But not a lot of people gave us respect for coming in here, so we're just trying to prove people wrong and work hard," said Great Britain's Ice Hockey Team forward Mike Hammond after the game.

German defender Moritz Seider scored the first goal in the second period. Great Britain levelled early in the third period but Germany scored two more goals. Both teams are placed in Group A, together with Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, USA and Slovakia.
