Shawn Mendes is opening up about what he calls “one of the scariest things he’s ever done” and how he is managing his mental health.
What’s up guys? It’s Sinead de Vries here with Clevver News and as if we didn’t already have enough reasons to love and respect Shawn Mendes, now he’s getting really real about his battle with anxiety.
Last March Shawn first revealed that he suffers from anxiety and how going to therapy has helped him cope tremendously.
He also explained it was the inspiration behind his hit single "In My Blood."
Now he is continuing to talk about how terrifying it was to open up about his anxiety.
At a private Verizon Up concert Shawn said quote, “Talking about the problem, putting it out there, was one of the scariest but most important things I’ve ever done. Just doing that helped me the most. I still struggle with it but just remember every day that everyone deals with some level of anxiety or pressure; we’re all in it together.”
And we fully support Shawn, and everyone for that matter, feeling comfortable and safe to talk about their mental health struggles.
Shawn also revealed that his close friends and family help keep him level-headed.
He said quote, “I still go back to Toronto and hang with my friends from growing up, and my family has also been so supportive. [...] No matter how big things get, you just have to always keep things normal and be as humble as you can.”
I seriously didn’t think I could love Shawn Mendes anymore but he officially just proved me wrong.
And fans appreciate Shawn’s honesty too.
One fan tweeted quote, “in my blood is not just a song. it’s an statement. thank you so much @ShawnMendes for talking about anxiety in a world where talking about mental health is so difficult.”
While others are commenting on how Shawn’s music has helped them with their own struggles.
This fan said quote, “In my blood,it helped me through so much because I am able to relate to it especially helps when My mental health is bad and it helps me get through it and realise I can be strong:heart:”
And we think Shawn said explains the meaning behind his song best himself. Last year he told The Sun that quote, “The point of the song is that no matter how long that lasts, you can come out the other end stronger and you come out of the other end always."
