New research has revealed that parts of the San Francisco Bay Area are sinking into the pacific ocean. Scientists have long understood that sea level is rising around the bay area, however, a new paper shows that the land itself is actually sinking. Researchers found that much of the city’s coast is sinking at a rate of 2 millimeters per year, with some sections sinking up to ten millimeters per year. The areas the will be most affected are the San Francisco International Airport, Foster City, and Union City.
