Chief of General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov slammed the US’ intention to leave the INF Treaty during a press briefing in Moscow on Wednesday.
“Given that there are official representatives of foreign military departments in the hall, I would like through you to inform your leaders that if the INF Treaty is annulled, this will not remain unanswered on our part,” he said.
“As military professionals, you should understand that not the territory of the United States, but the countries that deployed American complexes with medium and shorter-range missiles, will be targets for strikes,” he added.
On Tuesday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that Washington was urging Moscow to return to the INF Treaty within two months. According to him, the United States will suspend its obligations if the Russian Federation does not return to fulfil its commitments in 60 days.
