Two suspected IS militants were killed by Russian Special Forces in Stavropol in an operation that took place on Wednesday night into Thursday morning, according to the National Counter-Terrorism Committee (NAK).

The militants were reportedly killed after they opened fire and used a grenade against the officers who had requested them to pull over.

According to the NAK press release, both militants came to Stavropol Territory to carry out acts of terrorism. The militants are believed to have had links to the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL).

Weapons, ammunition and a grenade were found at the scene.
