A spectacular ceremony brought the Krasnoyarsk 2019 Winter Universiade to a close on Tuesday.

The ceremony featured a distinct Swiss twist to symbolise the handover of the Universiade to Switzerland’s Lucerne in 2021.

Russia performed best with a record-breaking 112 medals, smashing its own record of 71 at the 2017 Universiade in Kazakhstan's Almaty. South Korea and Japan took second and third place with 14 and 13 medals, respectively.

The 2019 Winter Universiade is an international student and youth competition. This is the first time the event has taken place in Russia.
