Russian President Vladimir Putin called for Russia to avoid mistakes of other countries and to listen to medical experts advice in the fight against the coronavirus, speaking in Moscow on Tuesday.

"Once again, I note that the peak of the epidemic has not yet passed. Now it is extremely important to avoid the mistakes of others and not to make our own, to draw conclusions based on the position of the medical and scientific community," the president said at video-conference meeting on coronavirus with Russia's top medical experts.

He stated that "In my opinion, all of us became virologists. Nowadays, we have country full of virologists. But the opinion of true experts is extremely important."

The Russian leader added that the authorities' efforts were aimed at protecting "safety and health of Russian citizens. At the same time, it is important to ensure conditions for the quickest recovery of economic and business activity."

On Tuesday, Russia recorded 1,154 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the total count in the country to 7,497. There have been 58 coronavirus-related deaths in Russia so far.
