Russia’s FSB has detained 26-year-old Georgii Guev on suspicion of providing financial support to Islamic State, as shown in footage released on Thursday.
“The suspect raised funds and provided ISIS and Israil Akhdnabiev, mostly known as Abu Umar Sasitlinski with financial support. As a result of Guev's criminal activity, no less than 50 million roubles (687,850 euros) have been transferred in the period from 2015 to 2019. This money was used by terrorist groups, as well as for the organisation of terrorist acts,” Russian Investigative Committee Spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko said.
Bank cards, a laptop and mobile phones were recovered during the operation.
Guev will be charged and remanded in custody, while Russia’s Investigative Committee carries out a full investigation.
