Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe arrived in Moscow on Monday ahead of talks about the sovereignty of the Kuril Islands with Russian President Vladimir Putin scheduled for Tuesday.

The two leaders are expected to discuss the peace treaty between the countries which remains unsigned following the WWII.

Japan sees four of the Kuril Islands, Shikotan, Kunashir, Iturup and Habomai, as its territory. Russia says they came under the jurisdiction of the USSR following the WWII.
