Secretary General, Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy for 2022 FIFA World Cup Hassan Al-Thawadi discussed Qatar’s preparations ahead of hosting biggest football tournament, speaking at the SPIEF session "Football in a big city" in Saint Petersburg on Friday.

"We were small, we were considered hot, and more importantly our part of the world was not considered a traditional host for major sporting events. When we won the right to host a World Cup, the spotlight shone on Qatar and the region a lot more, a lot more intensely. And I think we embraced it", said Al-Thawadi.

Talking about new technologies, Al-Thawadi described new 'cooled stadiums', which maintain 20-21°C (68.0 - 69.8 °F) in any Qatar weather. "The question is: is that Photoshop or reality? It’s a reality! It is 100% reality", he said.
