Magnitogorsk resident Olesya recounted what happened in the first moments after her 10-storey tower block collapsed due to a gas explosion, on Monday.
“As I opened my apartment door, I saw ruins”, she said.
The explosion caused an entire section of the tower block to collapse. Olesya explained that it took place at “six o'clock” in the morning and she woke up because “windows were knocked out instantly.”
“I heard my neighbours screaming loudly”, she said.
Media reports indicate that a total of 48 flats were damaged and that 110 people lived in the building.
Ten people were rescued alive from the rubble, including one child. Sixteen others were evacuated.
The emergencies ministry EMERCOM said 196 rescue workers supported by 58 pieces of equipment were at the scene.
